HOW TO GET STEREO TO WORK WITH DIAMOND FIRE GL 1000 PRO BOARD WITH WINDOWS NT 4.0 ------------------------------------------------------- 1) Load the latest driver from Diamond (most files dated 2/20/98 or later). As of this writing, this driver which supports stereo properly is still a beta driver, and is not available from Diamond's web or ftp sites, though both Diamond and StereoGraphics tech support have been sending it out on request. To obtain this driver from the StereoGraphics FTP site: From DOS prompt, change to the directory where you want to download to, activate your Internet connection, and type "ftp ftp.stereographics.com", then log in as "anonymous", type your e-mail address as your password, change directory "cd Developers", select download mode by typing "binary", and then download the file by typing "get di1000nt.zip". Finally, "quit" the ftp session. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL DRIVER FILES BY SIMPLY COPYING OVER EXISTING DISPLAY DRIVER FILES. To load the driver: First unzip the driver files into a temporary directory. Then bring up the Control Panel, choose "Display", click "Settings" and then "Display Type". From that dialog box, click "Change", and then "Have Disk". Click "Browse" and use the resulting file dialog box to locate the temporary directory that contains the new driver files. Finally, select the driver installation file, "Dispoem.inf" and click "Open". Follow further installation instructions when prompted. 2) After restarting your system, change the display settings (Control Panel, "Display", "Settings") to 800 x 600 x 65536 colors, 640 x 480 x 65536 colors, or 640 x 480 x 16777216 colors, with a refresh frequency of 100 Hz or more (or as high as you can get it to work if your system has difficulty displaying at the higher frequencies). Stereo will NOT work with this board using other display modes, such as 1024 x 768, or 256-color modes. 3) Go back to the Control Panel again and select "Display", followed by "Diamond Configuration". Under the "Configuration Profiles" section of the dialog box pane, click "STEREO" and then "OK". You will then be asked to restart the system. 4) To test stereo mode on your system, load the special stereo pipes screensaver, which is available from the StereoGraphics ftp site. Here's how to get it: From DOS prompt, change to the directory where you want to download to, activate your Internet connection, and type "ftp ftp.stereographics.com", then log in as "anonymous", type your e-mail address as your password, change directory "cd Developers", select download mode by typing "binary", and then download the file by typing "get scrsave.zip". Finally, "quit" the ftp session. Unzip the file, and move the unzipped screensaver file to your C:\winnt\system32 directory, replacing the previous non-stereo screensaver file of the same name. To activate the stereo screensaver, go into the Control Panel, select "Display" and then "Screen Saver", and select the screensaver named "3D Pipes (OpenGL)". You can now view the stereo screensaver by clicking "Preview". 5) If the above steps failed to get stereo working for you, please examine all hardware connections. The emitter should be firmly plugged into the connector on the Diamond FireGL 1000 Pro card. Check through all of the above steps to make sure that stereo is configured properly, and that you are in a compatible display mode. -Bob Akka StereoGraphics Corporation 4/22/98 The following text is from Diamond's original "readme" file that accompanied the driver: ------------------------------------------------------ This is a beta release of the NT 4.0 driver for the Fire GL 1000 Pro wich supports two Z buffers for applications which use stereo viewing. Unfortunately this limits the highest possible resolution for stereo viewing to 800x600 in high color, compared to 1024x768 in high color with one Z buffer. The second Z buffer can be disabled by setting the registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ glint\Device0\OpenGL.Stereo2ndZBuffer to 0 and rebooting the machine. There is a new registry entry to swap the signal on the stereo connector. Default is left = high. Setting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\glint\ Device0\OpenGL.StereoInvert to 1 will result in left = low.
